Cornelia Goldsmith

Mrs. Cornelia Cromer Goldsmith, age 64, of 1970 Mt. Olivet Road, Hartwell, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2009 in Athens Regional Medical Center.

The funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at 3pm from the Hartwell Chapel of The Strickland Funeral Home. Rev. Joe Black and Dr. Steve Williams will officiate and burial will follow in the Mt. Olivet Church of God Cemetery with Rev. Terry Meeks officiating. Born on July 27, 1945 in Hart County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Keifer Cromer and Iber Lois Phillips Cromer. She was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Baron L. Goldsmith; son, William Mark Goldsmith; brothers, Cecil, Jack, Gene, and Kenneth Cromer; and a sister, Mary Smith.

Mrs. Allie Mae Butler passed away on Friday, October 30, 2009.

Charles Henderson

Mr. Charles Donald Henderson passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2009.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 2pm from the Doves Creek Baptist Church. Revs. Douglas Huff and John Guest will officiate. Myrtis Seymour

Mrs. Myrtis Bonner Seymour, age 74, of Washington, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 in Medical College of Georgia.

The graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, October 30, 2009 at 4pm from the Cemetery of Mallorysville Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Berry officiating. Jack Leard, Jr., Brandon Howard, Matthew Howard, Ricky Morgan, Gaynor Hardy and Douglas Casey will serve as pallbearers with Ricky Dawson and Graydon and Pat Bobo serving as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 7-9pm Thursday in the funeral home.

She was a native of Oglethorpe County, the daughter of the late Samuel Eaton and Hazel Chafin Bonner. Mrs. Seymour had worked as a shipping supervisor in the textile industry, and worked the election polls and worked at the Wilkes County Stockyard. She was a member of Mallorysville Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Harold Seymour. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mallorysville Baptist Church.

Mr. Billy Edward Bryson, Jr., age 39, of 3386 Rock Branch Road, Elberton, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 in Emory University Hospital.

Mr. Jimmy Pless, age 67, of 2289 Harmony Road, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 in the Elbert Memorial Hospital after suffering a heart attack.

Darlene Estelle Banks, age 73, of Elberton, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2009.

Edward Skarzynski

Mr. Edward John Skarzynski, age 87, of 1540 Plantation Road, Elberton, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 in Elbert Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 11am from the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholice Church. Father Terence Kane will officiate and burial will be in The Skarzynski Family Cemetery with full Military honors. Born November 23, 1921 in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late Joseph Skarzynski and Marianne Grzeszczuk Skarzynski. He was retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after 21 years of service, Master Sergeant and served in WWII and Korean War. Mr. Skarzynski also retired from Adams Transport Storage in Chamblee. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, McAllen, Texas and is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Henry Skarzynski

Mr. Johnnie H. Rhodes, age 81, of Calhoun Falls, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2009.

Born on November 20, 1928, Mr. Rhodes was a dedicated member of Northside Baptist Church where he served a Sunday School teacher and past deacon. He was also a long time, dedicated, and devoted employee of Calhoun Falls Funeral Home. A wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, Johnnie will be greatly missed by his many dear friends. His wife, the late Monnell Rhodes, preceded him in death.

Mr. Frank Marshall Dixon, age 83, of Elberton, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2009.

Mr. Dixon was born in Elbert County to John Frank and Vonnie Ophelia Rice Dixon and was a lifelong resident of Elbert County. A former member of Eliam United Methodist Church, Mr. Dixon was a current member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church where he served as a lay speaker and Sunday School Superintendent. During World War II, he served as sergeant in the Third Army 90th Division 357th Infantry Company K in the European Theatre under General George S. Patton. Frank was a retired truck driver, a retired textile worker from Burlington Factory in Calhoun Falls, SC, and loved farming. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three sisters, Janelle Oglesby, Lila Slar, and Mary Ellene Anderson; and one grandson, Brad Dixon.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary Frances Childs Dixon of Elberton; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Bob Wheeler of Lilburn and Marsha and Bob Durham of Elberton; son and daughter-in-law, Monty and Rhonda Dixon of Elberton; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Verna and Thomas Dunn of Elberton; and brother and sister-in-law, Haynes and Joyce Dixon of Elberton.

Mrs. Rachel Viola Johnson Worley, age 87, of Elberton passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, in Elbert Memorial Hospital.

Gregory Allen Harris, age 38, of Colbert, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2009.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 11am from the Washington First United Methodist Church. Gary Sanders, Sr.

Mr. Gary Sanders, Sr., age 68, a man of God and hardworking Hart County Native, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2009 in his home.

The funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at 2pm from the Hartwell Chapel of The Strickland Funeral Home. Rev. Wesley Dove will officiate and burial will follow in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park. Born on March 26, 1941 in Hart County, he was a son of the late Cleo and Mozelle Sanders Sanders. Pastor of Freedom Baptist Church for several years, Mr. Sanders was recently a guest preacher at local revivals and churches. Gary considered sharing the Word of God with others as his greatest accomplishment in life. In addition to being an ordained minister, Mr. Sanders worked for Monroe Auto Equipment Company, Dow Bodische, Winn-Dixie, and Wal-Mart. While at Monroe, he coached and led the softball team to many victories, titles, and trophies over the years. After 27 years of service, Gary retired from Winn-Dixie and most recently was awarded employee of the month of April and celebrated 15 years with the Hartwell Wal-Mart. Mr. Sanders is preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Sanders Smith and Susan Sanders Moore; and brothers, Broughton Sanders and Stanley Sanders.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, October 2, 2009 at 11am from the Hartwell First United Methodist Church. Dr. R. Allen Stewart will officiate and burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park. The body is in The Strickland Funeral Home ~ Hartwell Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6-8 on Thursday evening. The family is at the home. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Hartwell First United Methodist Church, 200 East Howell Street, Hartwell, Georgia 30643.

Born on October 17, 1939 in Thomaston, GA, she was the daughter of the late Norman McInvale and Ethel McInvale. She was a homemaker, a former Stewardess for Delta Airlines, and one of the first to qualify for Jet Aircraft. She was a member of Hartwell First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, James H. "Jim" McGaha of Hartwell; son, Dr. Phillip McGaha of Charleston, SC; daughter, Maria McGaha of Smyrna; brother, Kenny McInvale of Thomaston; and four grandchildren, Ellen, James, Anna, and Ethan McGaha.
