Marshall Dixon

Mr. Frank Marshall Dixon, age 83, of Elberton, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2009.

The funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at 4pm from Woodlawn United Methodist Church. Revs. George Chamberse and Lacey Bowcock will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church sanctuary at 2pm to lie instate until the hour of service. The family will receive friends from 2-4 just prior to the service in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Woodlawn United Methodist Church Building Fund, 3680 Brad Dixon Road, Elberton, Georgia 30635.

Mr. Dixon was born in Elbert County to John Frank and Vonnie Ophelia Rice Dixon and was a lifelong resident of Elbert County. A former member of Eliam United Methodist Church, Mr. Dixon was a current member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church where he served as a lay speaker and Sunday School Superintendent. During World War II, he served as sergeant in the Third Army 90th Division 357th Infantry Company K in the European Theatre under General George S. Patton. Frank was a retired truck driver, a retired textile worker from Burlington Factory in Calhoun Falls, SC, and loved farming. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three sisters, Janelle Oglesby, Lila Slar, and Mary Ellene Anderson; and one grandson, Brad Dixon.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary Frances Childs Dixon of Elberton; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Bob Wheeler of Lilburn and Marsha and Bob Durham of Elberton; son and daughter-in-law, Monty and Rhonda Dixon of Elberton; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Verna and Thomas Dunn of Elberton; and brother and sister-in-law, Haynes and Joyce Dixon of Elberton.
