Mary Evelyn Brown

Mrs. Mary Evelyn Brown, age 84, of Elberton, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospice House.

Born on May 3, 1925 in Hickory, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late J.C. and Irene Wessinger. Mrs. Brown was retired from Brown Drafting Service and was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Jefferson Brown; and her sister, Margaret Lunsford.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Calvin and Beth Brown; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and John Ware; grandchildren, CJ Brown, Natalie Peterson, and John Kelly Ware; great-grandchildren, Madeline Scott and Brooke Peterson; and nieces, Maggie Edens and Linda Cheek. Several other relatives and friends also survive.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 2PM at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Monday evening at Hicks Funeral Home and from 1-2PM Tuesday just prior to the service at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Flowers will be accepted.

Harry Smith

Mr. Harry Wagner Smith, age 72 of Elberton passed away Monday, January 18, 2010 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jackie Graham.

Survivors include sister, Janelle Waters; and brothers, William Smith and Wayne Smith. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

W. Bill Johnson

Mr. William Eugene “Bill” Johnson, age 51, of Heardmont Nursing Home, Elberton, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2010 at Elbert Memorial Hospital.

Born on September 8, 1958 in Elbert County, he was a son of Max A. and Ruby Standridge Johnson of Elberton. He worked in the granite industry as a polisher. Mr. Johnson was a resident of Heardmont Nursing Home for 8 months.

Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-law, Christopher Johnson, and Robbie and Ashley Johnson; granddaughters, Olivia and Cheyenne Johnson; parents, Max A. and Ruby Standridge Johnson; brother, Robert “Bob” Johnson; sister, Pamela Johnson, all of Elberton; and mother of his children, Brenda Mooney; and grandparents of his children, Pete and Georgia Bond, all of Elberton. Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced later by Hicks Funeral Home.

Nesa Mills

Mary Nesa Mills, 61, of 141 Tusten St., Elberton, died Friday January 8, 2010 at the Trinty Hospital in Augusta GA.

Born in Elbert County, Ga., she was a daughter of Edith DePalma Mills and the late Jim Tom Mills. She was a member of Eliam United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her mother, Edith DePalma Mills, of Elberton. Sister and brother-in-law; Cindy and Kim Lloyd, of Ruston, La. Nephew and niece, Chris and Sarah Lloyd, of Alpharetta, Ga., and Katie Lloyd, of Alburn Al.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday January 11, at the Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. J. Wesley Privett, and Rev. Gary Purvis officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM before services at Berry Funeral Home. The family is at the home, 141 Tusten St.

Pallbearers will be; Stanley Mills, Galen Mills, Tony Mills Jr., Mike Mills, Steele Mills, Josh Mills, Austin Mills, and Lewis Bailey.

Honorary Pallbearers; Phillip Butler, Robert Williams, Rusty Adams, Larry Sartain, Kerry Lloyd, and Tony Mills Sr.

Lamar Lindsey

Mr. James ‘Lamar’ Lindsey, age 65, of Elberton, passed away on Tuesday, January 05, 2010 at Elbert Memorial Hospital.

Born on March 17, 1944 in Wilkes County, he was a son of the late Louie Lamar and Ruby Wheatly Lindsey. He was retired from the textile industry. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lindsey is preceded in death by his son, Shannon Lamar Lindsey.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Sandra Whidby Lindsey; step-daughter, Michelle Adams, both of Elberton; step-son and daughter-in-law, Zeke and Christy Adams; grandchildren, Brittany and Michael Owens, and Eli Adams, all of Anderson; and sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Charles Smith of Tignall.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Lindsey will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2009 at 3PM in the Fishing Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Al Davis officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2PM prior to the service at Hicks Funeral Home. Flowers are optional, and memorials may be made to the charity of ones choice.

Charlie Wilder

Charlie Lester Wilder, age 61, of Elberton, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2010 at Landmark Hospital, Athens.

Born on October 13, 1948 in Elbert County, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mattie Belle Brackett Wilder. Mr. Wilder was a truck driver for the granite industry and served in the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jones Wilder.

Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Dorothy and Raymond Harrell, and Charlene Dutton; son, Charles Wilder; and six grandchildren. Several other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Wilder will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2009 at 2PM in the Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home with Reverend DeWayne Haley officiating. Entombment will follow in the Forest Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will be at the home of Dorothy and Raymond Harrell, 707 Church Street, Royston, and will receive friends from 6-8PM Monday evening at Hicks Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted.

TJ Johnson

Mr. Terry Mark “TJ” Johnson, 53, of 2363 Washington Hwy, Elberton GA, passed away on Friday, January 01, 2010 at his home.

Born in Anderson Co. SC, he was the son of Libby Hill Johnson and the late Bennie Max Johnson. TJ was a former member of the Elbert County EMS and Hart Co. EMS and served as a first responder for both. He was former Vice-President of Whitlow Electric Co, former employee of Star Granite and was a member of the Elberton First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his mother, Libby Hill Johnson of Hartwell; wife, Angela Smith Johnson of the home; a daughter, Ande Rae Johnson of the home; a son, Benne Max Johnson of the home; a sister, Joy Shaw of Hartwell and two brothers, Tony Johnson of Hartwell and Barney Johnson of Franklin Springs also survive.

A service celebrating TJ’s life will be held on Saturday, January 9 at 2:00 p.m. at the Elberton First United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Smith and Rev. Gary Purvis officiating. The following person have been asked to be honorary pallbearers: The Board of Directors of the TJ & Friends Foundation, Darren Scarborough, Kyle Scarborough, Keith Scarborough, Josh Fowler, Jimmy Gunter, Mark Adams, Ricky Johnson, Steve Higginbotham, Mike Webb, Chuck Almond, Blake Thompson, Randy Lane, Galen Mills, Frankie Teasley, Dr. Wiggans, Dr. Hallie, Terri Glaude, Nancy Seymour, Terri Seymour, Pam Gunner and Lee Pulliam.
