Clyde Hewell

Clyde H. Hewell, age 91, of 128 Tusten St., Elberton, Ga., passed away on March 18, 2011 at his home with family and friends at his side. He was born November 6, 1919, in Dewy Rose, Ga., the son of the late Thomas and Hassie Mae Hewell. Mr. Hewell served in the United States Navy in WWII on a destroyer, the US Benner, in the South Pacific.

Mr. Hewell was a graduate of Elbert County Highschool and attended classes in Law School. He was a life long member of First Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and was a member of the Victory Sunday School class. He worked for the U. S. Post Office in Elberton and served as Postmaster before his retirement.

Mr. Hewell is survived by his wife of 70 years, Martha V. Hewell, a daughter, Susan Guinn and her husband John Guinn of Myrtle Beach, S.C., many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Clyde H. Hewell, Jr., his brothers, Tom A. Hewell, Joe Hewell and one sister, Barbara Coker.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 20, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with visitation from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service in the fellowship hall.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, Elberton, Ga. or to United Hospice, 435 Hawthorne Avenue, Suite 200, Athens, Ga. 30606.

Interment will be at Elmhurst Cemetery in Elberton, Georgia following the service.
