Frances Holbrook

Mrs. Frances Brown Holbrook, age 93, of Woodstock Nursing Center, Woodstock, formerly of Hartwell, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 in Woodstock Nursing Center.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 18, 2009 at 2pm from the Hartwell Chapel of The Strickland Funeral Home. Rev. Jerry Durham will officiate and burial will follow in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park. The body is in The Strickland Funeral Home ~ Hartwell Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 10-12am Friday morning. Memorials ma be made to:

Born on July 25, 1916 in Hart County, she was the daughter of the late Howard W. Brown Sr. and Lois Cook Brown. She was retired from Newton Mills, member of the Bethany Baptist Church, former choir member and director, former SS Teacher and member of various organizations in the church. Mrs. Holbrook is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James W. Holbrook; a daughter, Sonia Holbrook; and four brothers, Howard Brown Jr, Harold Brown, Nelson Brown and Spencer Brown.

Survivors include a son, Thad Holbrook of Royston, two daughters, Jan Williams and her husband John of Birmingham AL and Miriam Tanner and her husband John of Canton GA; two brothers, Rev. Sanford Brown of Savannah and Jule Brown of Dawson; three sisters, Miriam Moore and Lucy Corbett both of Savannah and Claudean Stone of Valdosta; a half brother, Paul Brown of Florida; two half-sisters, Ellen Purvis of Watkinsville and Patsy Howard of Atlanta; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive.
