Gladys Auten

Mrs. Gladys Virginia Ayers Auten, age 85 of 518 Darlington Street, Calhoun Falls passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2009 in NHC of Greenwood.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at 4pm from the Pentecostal Holiness Church of Calhoun Falls. Revs. Barry Bryan, Lawrence Johnson, and Virgil Manning will officiate and burial will be in Latimer Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Janice and Billy Boggs, 407 Peach Orchard Road, Calhoun Falls, and will receive friends in Calhoun Falls Funeral Home on Monday, July 20, 2009 from 6-8pm. Flowers will be accepted and memorials may be made to:
Calhoun Falls Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Born in Anderson, SC on January 14, 1924, Mrs. Auten was the daughter of the late Richard V. Ayers and Mamie Lou King Ayers. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. Gladys had been a member of the Adult Choir, the Women's Ministry, and sung alto with the Ladies Trio. As a young girl, she sung on the radio and at churches with the Ayers Trio. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Roy F. Auten; three granddaughters, Christy Bowman, April Auten, and Kayla Sharee Auten; two sisters, Louise Ayers Woosley and Helen Ayers Bleckley; and three brothers, Rev. Hester V. Ayers, Bill Ayers and Johnny O'Dell Ayers.

Survivors include four loving daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Billy Boggs, of Calhoun Falls, Jennie and Rev. Billy Yon of Whitmire, Martha Jo and Vernon Cubbler of Belton, and Louise and Raymond Haggerty of Lexington; two devoted sons and a daughter-in-lw, David Lamar Auten of Ware Shoals, and Ray "Frankie", II and Sharon Auten,of Aiken; two sisters, Geraldine Ayers Britt of Belton and adopted sister Ann Ayers McAllister of Anderson; two brothers, Willis Samuel Ayers of Anderson, and Henry Joe Ayers of Simpsonville; two nephews raised as brothers, Jackie Ayers of Simpsonville and LaVern Ayers of Anderson; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
