Orene Ward

Ms. Orene Gaines Ward, age 92, of Elberton, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2009.

The funeral service will be on Sunday, July 19, 2009, at 3pm from the chapel of Hicks Funeral Home. Interment will be in Rock Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-3 just prior to the service in Hicks Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ward was born in Elbert County to the late Lawrence S. Gaines and Marvin Adams Gaines. She was a lifelong member of Rock Branch Baptist Church. Orene was retired from Bellcraft Mfg. Co. in Hartwell. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, T. Jamie Ward; her son Thomas Ray Ward; her granddaughter; Lynn Carter; eight brothers; and one sister.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Pat & Joe Stovall of Elberton, Martha and Coy Moon of Elberton, and Linda and Donny Callaway of Lancaster, S.C.; grandchildren Michael Stovall of Peachtree City, Ken Stovall of Atlanta, Debbie Gaffney of Cumming, Scott Carter of Athens, Michelle Morrison of Comer, Marcus Moon of Comer, Don Callaway of Lancaster, S.C., and Kevin Callaway of Clemmons, N.C.; nine great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchild; and sisters, Lula Brown of Anderson, SC, and Betty Shorter of Columbia, SC.
