Will Carter, Jr.

Mr. William P. “Will” Carter, Jr., age 68, of 208 Holly Street, Hartwell, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2009 in AnMed Health Medical Center.

The memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from the Hartwell Chapel of The Strickland Funeral Home. Dr. R. Allen Stewart will officiate and Military Honors will follow the service. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. in The Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. Born February 18, 1941 in Hart County, he was the son of the late William P. “Mr. Willie” Carter, Sr. And Thelma McMullan Carter. Mr. Carter was a graduate of Georgia Tech, Class of 1963, where he received a degree in Industrial Management and was a graduate of the Navy Supply School in Athens. Will retired from Owens Corning Fiberglass, Anderson Plant, with 27 years of service as a Quality Control Engineer. He was a member of the Sons of the Confederacy, Sons of American Revolution and Civil War Round Table. Mr. Carter served on the board of Directors for Hart County Department of Family and Children Services, Hartwell Housing Authority and was an avid supporter of all Civil War Organizations. Will was a U.S. Navy Veteran, served as a Lieutenant aboard the USS Guam and served in Vietnam during the Vietnam war. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Frances Wilburn Carter.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia V. Carter of the home; two sons, Stewart Carter and his wife Rose of Statesboro GA and David Carter of Athens GA; a brother, Jeff M. Carter of Hartwell GA; and a step-son, Mark Orlando of Hopewell Junction, NY.
