Edward G. Hicks, 71, of Elberton, lost his battle with heart disease on May 2, 2010 and went home to be with his savior.
Ed was born and raised in Reynolds, GA by his parents, Henry G. and Alice Mae Ellison Hicks. He joins his father and brother Harry, in heaven. He attended Reynolds High, class of 1957, and married his grade school sweetheart, Barbara Ann Lane, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage last September. Ed graduated from the University of Georgia's School of Pharmacy and eventually settled in Elberton in 1962, serving as a registered pharmacist at The Prescription Shop, Herndon Drugs (which he owned and operated for more the 30 years), Madden's Pharmacy, Walmart and Ward's Pharmacy. Besides his mother and his wife, Ed will be missed by his son, Michael and his wife, Rebecca, of Willow Springs, NC, by his daughter, Cathy, and her husband Tracy Gurganious, of Willard, NC, and by his grandchildren, Jasmine Hicks and Jacob Gurganious.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 7, at 2PM at the First Baptist Church of Elberton, where Ed served many years as an ordained deacon. The family will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 7-9PM.
Instead of flowers, contributions in Ed's memory may be made to the First Baptist Church of Elberton.
