Mr. Cullen Bryant Howell, age 89, of 3032 Anderson Highway, Elberton, husband of Valeria Gulley Howell, passed away on Friday, December 25, 2009 at the Elbert Memorial Hospital.
Born in Hart County, he was a son of the late Thomas J. Howell and Ada Brown Howell. He was a member of the Rock Branch Baptist Church and retired building inspector for the City of Elberton. Mr. Howell was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII.
Survivors include his wife, Valeria Gulley Howell, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Cindy Howell of Elberton, Larry and Judy Howell of N. Augusta, Don and Dawn Howell of Lagrange, and Tommy and Susie Howell of Belton, SC; sisters, Hertha Robinson of Greenville, Grace Veal of Elberton, and Bobbie Kirkland of Winter Park, Florida; brother, Walton Howell of Elberton; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Howell will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 2 PM from the Rock Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church to lie in state from 1-2 PM. The family is at the home, 3032 Anderson Highway, Elberton, and will receive friends from 6-8PM Monday at Berry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rock Branch Baptist Church Family Life Center.
