Jessie Maddox, Jr.

Mr. Jesse Cleveland Maddox, Jr., 85, of Washington, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2009 in Heritage Healthcare of Wilkes.

The memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 2pm from the Seven Pines Baptist Church in Barnwell, South Carolina. Flowers are optional, and memorial contributions may be made to Seven Pines Baptist Church, Barnwell, SC, First Baptist Church, Washington or Wilkes County Humane Society, Washington.

Mr. Maddox was a native of Lincoln County, the son of the late Jesse Cleveland and Laura Maude Wells Maddox. He was a retired commercial contractor and had served as President of Augusta Association for Retarded Children and on the Founding Board of Lyndale School in Augusta. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Washington and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Besides his parents, Mr. Maddox was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Boiter Maddox; daughter, Wanda Kay Allison Barnes; and sons, Gary Maddox and Troy C. Maddox.

Survivors include wife, Elizabeth Biel Maddox, Barnwell, SC; daughter and son-in-law, Ann & Barry Rogers of Washington; son, Jerry Maddox of Rome; step-daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy & Monty Morrow of Barnwell, SC, Susan & Gary Bradham of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Mary & William Baldwin, Summerville, SC; sister and brother-in-law, Jane & Tommy Gable of Barnwell, SC; granddaughters and grandson-in-law, Kay & Chris Atkins of Harlem, Heather Allison of Atlanta, Jarrord Allison of Beach Island, SC, LeAnn Maddox of Augusta and Shannon Maddox of Augusta; grandsons, Eric Maddox of Augusta, and Chip Maddox; and step-grandson, Scott Rogers of Gray.
