Joy Baker Brown

Mrs. Joy Baker Brown, 81, of 166 Elrod’s Ferry Road, Hartwell, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at her home.

Born on November 21, 1929 in Rome, GA, she was the daughter of the late Hall M. Baker and Eloise Freeman Baker. She worked for Farm Bureau, Dr. Cacchioli, and retired from Engelhard after 27 years. She was a member of Sardis Baptist Church where she attended the Homemakers Sunday School Class, was a past member of the choir, helped in the nursery, the 4 & 5 year old class, youth, and was a G.A. Leader.

She is survived by her daughter: Deanna B. “Dee” Conley of Hartwell; one brother: Phil F. Baker of Atlanta; five grandchildren: Sommer Joy Wooten and her husband, Dale, Mike Kearns and his wife, Crystal, Jim Kearns and his wife, Peggy, Carrie Hickman, and Nickolas Brown; nineteen great grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Nardin P. Brown; and one son: Greg N. Brown.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 11, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. John Silver and Rev. Claude Smithmier officiating. Burial will be in the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday night. The family is at the home.
