Virginia R. Fisher

Virginia R. Fisher, 93, of Hartwell, Georgia died Monday Jan. 31, 2011. She was the daughter of William Henry Randolph and Elsie Mershon Randolph. She was married 65 years to James Glenn Fisher of Decatur and Hartwell, Georgia.

She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Hartwell where she was President of the Night WMU and a Church Circle Leader, and served on the Design and Equipment Committee, the Hospitality Committee, and Chairman of the Planning Committee for the Sanctuary Grounds (1965). She was a member of Ruth Sunday School Class, Martha Bowers Missionary Group, and the Fellowship of Christian Seniors.

Mrs. Fisher was a charter member of the Hartwell Garden Club, and was President 1957-1960. She served on the Garden Club Council and other committees. She was a member of the DAR serving as Corresponding Secretary, and also the Woman’s Club serving as Secretary.

Her surviving family are: sons James Glenn Fisher, Jr. of Banks County, Georgia; Richard R (Randy) Fisher of Hartwell, Georgia; and daughter Sharon F. Harper of Pike Road, Alabama; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be Friday, February 4 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hartwell First Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Williams, Dr. Hugh Kirby and Rev. Carter Tucker officiating. Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to the Hartwell First Baptist Church, 81 East Howell Street, Hartwell, Georgia 30643.
