I am Liane Lee,daughter of Van McGarity, and I am not pleased with the Obituary or the service of Hicks Funeral Home. My husband's name was not mentioned(and he was listed in the paperwork)and Hicks rushed the service to start before everyone was really ready!(they were told this and still started!) A BIG thanks to Tim Adams... every word was comforting!Thank you for your time and prayers, they are truly needed!

Mrs. Lee, please except our deepest sympathy to you and your family during your time of loss. We are certainly sorry for your and your family. Going through the death of a loved one is hard enough, much less going through this difficult time without a caring and understanding funeral home staff. We, luckily, have never had any dealings with any funeral home in Elberton. We live in Dewy Rose and all of our family has been in Royston. However, our hope is that you will use the experience to let others know how you were treated so they will chose another funeral home and not use Hicks. If you would like to send us a different obituary you would like posted, please do so to localobits@gmail.com and we'll be glad to post.

Our deepest sympathy,
Local Obits.

Sorry to hear this Mrs. Lee, as i know firsthand how you feel regarding Hicks Funeral Home. My side of the family had always used them and my husbands has always used Berry, and now i know absolutely why. I lost my father and we used Hicks and got the same treatment, and disrespect as well. Then after speaking with the Funeral Director he wasn't even employed with them but owed a funeral home in Lincolton, GA, and was paid to come do the service for them, then after the funeral we found out from Mrs. Thompson that my father was took to Strickland Funeral Home in Hartwell to be embalmed as Hicks doesn't have anyone that can do this. Then to make matters worse my husband lost his grandfather and they used Berry and my husband wanted the exact same as i had for my father, and the funeral was almost $3,000 less than what it was at Hicks with my father for the exact same thing. Me and my family will never use Hicks Funeral Home again to be disrespected and have to pay more for it. Sorry again Mrs. Lee i hope find peace with this and let friends and family know how you feel cause we sure have.
