Pete Chafin

Mr. William Thomas “Pete” Chafin, Sr., 88, died Sunday evening at the GA War Veteran’s Home on 15th Street in Augusta .

Mr. Chafin was a native of Wilkes County. He was the widower of Mary Ruth Hinton Chafin, and the son of the late Miles Chafin and Willie Pearl Gresham Chafin. He was a retired logger, and he and his wife owned and operated Chafin’s Store for a number of years. He was an Army veteran of WW II, serving from 1942-1945. He had been a very active member of the Washington Chapel for a number of years.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at 3:00 pm at Resthaven Cemetery with Peter Hoffman officiating. The family will receive friends the same day (Wednesday) from 1:30-2:30pm at Hopkins Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Carroll Binns, David Chafin, John Keen, Bobby Turpin, Mack Chafin, Ronnie Chafin, Dennis Chafin, and Jeff Chafin.

Mr. Chafin is survived by one son, William T. “Chick” (Mary) Chafin, Jr., of N. Augusta, SC; two brothers, Alvin (June) Chafin and Malcolm (Elizabeth) Chafin, both of Washington; two sisters, Nellie Turpin and Emogene Davenport, both of Washington. Mr. Chafin was preceded in death by two brothers, Aubrey Chafin and Troy Chafin.
