William Haley

William Hoyt Haley, 100, a resident of Magnolia Estates in Elberton, died Sunday, April 18, 2010, at Elbert Memorial Hospital. He was a son of the late Ira S. Haley and the late Minnie Gaines Haley of Elberton.

He was born and reared in Hart County. He later lived in Birmingham, Alabama, and West Palm Beach, Florida. Then he went to the University of Georgia and received a degree in Forestry in 1938. After graduation, he worked in Camden County, Georgia as a forester. There, he married Wilhelmina Stafford in 1940. In 1941, he moved to Hazlehurst, Georgia, where he lived for 54 years. In Hazlehurst, he was a forester, a Dodge and Plymouth dealer, a pulpwood dealer, a high school teacher, and he did some surveying and timber cruising. In 1995, he moved to Magnolia Estates.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilhelmina Stafford Haley, and a son, William Jackson "Jack" Haley.

Survivors include one son, Bob Haley of Orlando, Florida; three sisters, Reba Craft and Margaret Ward of Elberton, and Mary Rathbun of Ohio; one brother, Marion Holman Haley of Hartwell; a sister-in-law, Gwen Heath of Hazlehurst.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 2PM at the Elberton First Methodist Church with Reverend Wayne Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2PM on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 just prior to the service at the Elberton First United Methodist Church in Elberton. Burial will be in the Palms Memorial Gardens, Hazelhurst, Ga. on Thursday April 22, 2010 under the direction of the Wainright & Parlor Funeral Home.
