Sherald Colvard

Sherald Johnson Colvard, 83, of 3428 Defoor Road, Toccoa, Georgia, formerly of Elberton, husband of Betty Jo Colvard, died on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at his residence.

Born on October 31, 1926 in Elbert County, he was a son of the late Gipson Calvin and Mertie Mildred Herring Colvard. He was a past chairman of the Democratic Board of Elberton and the retired Vice President of the Elberton First National Bank. Mr. Colvard was a member of the Elberton First Baptist Church and a former employee of Hicks Funeral Home. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Colvard Ayers and Rozelle Colvard Johnson; and a niece, Sheraldean Ayers Crawford.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Betty Jo Colvard; daughter and son-in-law, Loretta C. and Keith Cheek of Toccoa; sons and daughters-in-law, Sherald Joe and Merrie Colvard of Elberton, and John and Connie Colvard of Toccoa; grandchildren, Tara and Mitchell Presley, Eric Wolf, Alexa Ivester, Camran Fleming, Autumn Cheek, Scott Cheek, Ryan Fleming, Justin Colvard, Jamie Colvard, Elizabeth Marstellar, Morgan Ertzberger, and Taylor Ertzberger; 15 great-grandchildren; niece, Sylvia Johnson Yarborough; and nephew, Calvin Johnson. Several other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 3PM from the Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service in Elmhurst Cemetery. Reverends David Keister and Kenny Martin will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Thursday night at Hicks Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Joe and Merrie Colvard, 1577 Brewers Bridge Road in Elberton. Flowers will be accepted.

Pallbearers will include Camran Fleming, Ryan Fleming, Brandon Ivester, Justin Colvard, Eddie Stowers, and Eddie Teasley.
