Adetha Rousey

Adetha Mae Thomason "Dee" Rousey, 71, of 1672 Dickerson Road, Elberton, wife of Henry C. "Sonny" Rousey Sr., died on Sunday, March 21, 2010, at St. Mary's Hospice House.

Born on February 27, 1939, in Gilmer, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Harley Milton and Alice J. Darnell Thomason. Dee was a member of the Goss Baptist Church. She was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, having served as the Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star #106 and #550. Mrs. Rousey was a member of the 9th District Georgia Rural and National Letter Carriers Auxiliary, AARP, Elbert Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Elberton Red Hats Club. She was a past member of the U.S. Navy Wives Club and the Pilot Club International and a member of various PTA/Athletic Associations in Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, California, Japan and Germany. Dee was a Pink Lady at Elbert Memorial Hospital and was retired from the Elbert Memorial Hospital Wellness Center. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rousey is preceded in death by her sister, Julia Ann Bridges.

Survivors include her husband, Henry C. "Sonny" Rousey Sr., of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon L. and Gregg Walker, of Monroe; son and daughter-in-law, Henry C. "Chip" and Tracey Colquitt Rousey Jr., of Elberton; brothers, James M. and Harley L. Thomason; and grandchildren, Ashley, Cara and Wesley Rousey and Tara and Jessi Walker. Several other nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Hicks Funeral Home with Reverend Connie Ivester officiating. At Dee's request, her body was cremated. The family will be at the home, 1672 Dickerson Road, Elberton, and will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. just prior to the service at Hicks Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to Goss Baptist Church, Stinchomb Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star # 550, Masonic Philomathea Lodge # 25, Northeast Georgia Cancer Center, Elbert Memorial Wellness Center or to St. Mary's Hospice.
