Aundra Bolton

Aundra Bolton, of Bolton Drive, Elberton, died on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at her residence.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 2pm from the Elberton First Baptist Church on Heard Streey. Following the service, the funeral procession will go down Campbell Street by Blackwell Elementary. All students, former students, faculty, and staff are asked to stand in honor in the parking lot of the school. Following that, the procession will proceed to Lincoln Heights Cemetery. Graveside services and interment will follow.

The body is in McKinney-Neal Mortuary, Inc., located at 227 Campbell Street, and will be available for public view after 12noon on Friday, February 27, 2009. The family is at the residence.

Kimberly Rice

Kimberly Rice, age 41, of Athens, died on Monday, February 16, 2009.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 11am from the chapel in Hicks Funeral Home. Rev. Michael Stovall will officiate. The internment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Bowman.

Kimberly was a graduate of Berkmar High School, Truett McConnell College, and graduated with honors from the University of Georgia. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Morgan and Blythe Rice of Bowman, and Leila Vaughn of Royston.

Survivors include her lifepartner, Sherry Brooks, of Athens; parents, Clinton and Patsy Rice of Norcross and Louise Brooks, of Athens; grandfather, Durell Vaughn, of Royston; sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Ricky Williams of Rome; and two nephews, Riley and Cooper Williams, of Rome.

Larry Wesley Prince of 408 Hickory Drive, Elberton died Saturday, February 14, 2009.

Teresa Carter

Melanie Teresa Carter, age 59 of Elberton, died on Wednesday, February 11, 2009.

She was the daughter of the late Lillian Worley Haralson and Carl Carter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Alexa Ray

Maxine Carroll

Maxine Carroll, age 80, of Elberton died Thursday, February 12, 2009.

William Smith

Mr. William Brown Smith, age 91 of Elberton, died February 6, 2009.

The funeral service was held Sunday, February 8, 2009 at 3:00 PM from Rock Branch Baptist Church with remains in state at 2:00. Rev. Ken Wright and Rev. Ed Sayer officiating. Interment followed in Elmhurst Cemetery. The family received friends Saturday evening, 6-8 PM in the funeral home. Donations may be made in the name of Mr. Smith to Rock Branch Baptist Church Family Life Center 2150 Coldwater Rd NE Elberton, GA 30635.

Mr. Smith was born in Elbert County to the late William Martin Smith and Nora Greenway Smith. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII and worked as Road Superintendent for Elbert County Municipal Government. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Pat Ward Smith, and sisters, Marie Rumsey and Sara Burden.

He is survived by his brother, Horace Smith Brown of Richmond, VA; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Edwin and Linda Stratton, of Elberton.

Lucille Helen Oglesby

Mrs. Lucille Helen Moon Oglesby, age 90 of Elberton, died Thursday, February 5, 2009.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 2pm from the chapel in Berry Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1-2 Saturday just prior to the service at Berry Funeral Home.

Survivors include her daughter, Jean Smith; sons, William "Boots" Lanier Oglesby, Jerry Oglesby, and Billy Wayne Oglesby; brother, Rev. Kenneth Moon; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Joe McMullan

Mr. Joe Tom McMullan, age 84 of the Rock Branch Community died on Wednesday, February 4, 2009.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2009 at 3pm from the chapel in Hicks Funeral Home. Reverends Ken Wright, Ed Sayer, and Wes Privett will officiate. The internment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Thursday evening at the funeral home. At other times they will be at the residence in Rock Branch. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to the Rock Branch Baptist Church Family Life Center.

Mr. McMullan was born in Elbert County to the late Tom W. McMullan and Corine Crawford McMullan. He was a lifelong resident of Rock Branch Community and a lifelong member of Rock Branch Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for 20 years. He was the Service Manager at Oldsmobile-Cadillac Dealership for 26 years. He taught At Elbert County High School in the Transportation Lab for 18 years and served on Elbert county Board of Education for 8 years. He also served in the U. S. Army in World War II, Korea and the Philippines. and was as member of Sons of the American Revolution.

He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Azalee McMullan; daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Kenneth Dye; and two granddaughters, Allyson and Lauren Dye, all of Elberton.

George Ward

Mr. George Addicus Ward, age 84, of the Fortsonia Community died on Wednesday, February 4, 2009.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 11am from Eliam United Methodist Church. Reverend Wes Privett will officiate and internment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park. The remains will be placed in the church at 10am Saturday to lie in state until the hour of service. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Friday night at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Eliam United Methodist Church, 2130 Dr. George Ward Road, Elberton.

Mr. Ward served in the United States Navy. He was born in Elbert County to the late Dr. George A. Ward, Sr. and Corinne Dye Ward. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marion W. Hudson.

He is survived by his wife of fifty five years, Iris Ward; daughter, daughter Nancy W. (and husband Larry) Bessinger of Elberton; son George A. (his wife Young Ae Ward, III of Seoul South Korea; granddaughter Corrie Elise Bessinger of Commerce; and sisters Laura W. Smith of Elberton, Mary B. Munnel of Athens.

Mrs. Lillian Worley Haralson, age 82, of Elberton, died February 2, 2009.

The memorial service for Mrs. Worley will be held 3pm Wednesday, February 4, 2009 from Bethlehem United Methodist Church. The body is being cremated.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Alexa Ray.

Mary Louise Busby West, 94, of Myrtle Street, widow of Norman West, died January 31, 2009.
