Annie Lou Cornell

Mrs. Annie Lou Fortson Cornell, age 84, of Elberton passed away on November 7, 2009 in Athens Regional Medical Center.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 9, 2009 at 2pm from the Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home. Dr. Tim Smith will officiate and burial will follow in the family plot of Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening in Hicks Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Born on June 23, 1925 in Dewy Rose, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Annie Ruth Fortson. She was a long-time member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Elberton, and she worked in the granite industry for many years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene M. Cornell; her sister, Johnnie Brodeur; and her brother, Marion Fortson.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Dale Wakefield of Athens; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Nell Cornell, of Watkinsville; grandchildren, Jake and Allison Wakefield, of Macon, Jill and Nathan Clark of San Antonio, TX, Clint Cornell, of Athens, Carson Cornell, of Carrollton, and Zach Cornell, of Commerce; great-grandchildren, Lily Wakefield, Chloe Clark, Finn Wakefield, Spencer Clark, and Lily Cornell; sisters, Carolyn Barger of Elberton and Dottie Wakefield, of Dawsonville; brothers, Wayne Fortson of Savannah, Don Fortson, of Comer, and Jack Fortson of Grovetown and many neices, nephews, and cousins.
