Joy Cochran

Mrs. Joy Leigh Smith Cochran, age 58, of 1721 Martin Villa Road, Elberton, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2009 in her home.

In according to Joy's wishes, her body was cremated and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 2pm from the Eliam United Methodist Church. Rev. Wes Privett and Rev. Shane Duncan will officiate and inurnment will be in Elmhurst Cemetery and a later date. The family is at the residence, 1721 Martin Villa Road, Elberton. Flowers are optional and memorials may be made in her honor to T.J. & Friends Foundation, 1675 Deep Creek Road, Dewy Rose, Georgia 30634 or at any Pinnacle Bank.

Born on August 30, 1951 in Elbert County, Joy Leigh was the daughter of Lewis H. Smith, of Elberton, and the late Faye Kidd Smith. She was a member of Eliam United Methodist Church and a Clerk at American Laundry and Dry Cleaning. Mrs. Cochran is preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Faye Kidd Smith; and her husband, Mr. Winfred "Wimp" Cochran.

Survivors include two sons, Joey Chatham of Columbia, SC and Jayson Chatham of Goldsboro, NC; grandchildren, Cameron Chatham and Conley Chatham; father, Mr. Lewis H. Smith, of Elberton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jo Smith (her twin) and Bobby Banister, of Hartwell, Janie Smith and Keith Scarborough, of Elberton, and Angela Smith and Terry "T.J." Johnson, of Elberton; several nieces; nephews; and special friend, Cindy Willis Williamson. Joy will be missed by all who knew her.
