Bennie Reid

Mr. Bennie Reid, age 91, of 56 Homestead Road, Hartwell, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2009 in the Elbert Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at 11am from the Hartwell Chapel of The Strickland Funeral Home. Rev. Michael Fugate, Dr. Wendell Bannister, and Mr. Fred Greenway will officiate and entombment will be in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Anderson. The body is in The Strickland Funeral Home ~ Hartwell Chapel where the family will receive friends from 10-11am Wednesday morning just prior to the service. The family is at the home of his daughter, Eleanor Feltman, 718 Laurel Drive, Hartwell.

Born on April 23, 1918 in Hart County, he was the son of the late James “Jim” Reid and Roxie Eleanor Smith Reid. He was a retired from Monroe Auto Equipment Co. after 26 years. Mr. Reid was a member of the Flat Shoals Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army WWII Veteran having served in the European theater. Bennie is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Carl Reid; grandson, Brandon Reid; and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mrs. Elizabeth Cantrell Reid; sons, Don Reid of Hartwell, Rev. Ronald Keith Reid of Adairsville, and Terry Reid of Hartwell; daughter, Eleanor Feltman of Hartwell; grandchildren, Kevin Feltman, Dona Sanders, Tara Burdette, all of Hartwell, Shannon Reid of Anderson, Jason Reid ofAthens, Angie McCraken, Tim Reid, and Kimberly Reid, all of Adairsrville; and eight great-grandchildren.
