Richard Stratton

Mr. Richard Edgar Stratton, age 66, of 2436 Anderson Highway, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2009 in his home.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 27, 2009 at 11am from the New Bethel United Methodist Church. Reverend Benjamin Wiles will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 to lie instate until the service hour. The family will be at the home and will receive friends Sunday evening from 6-8pm in Berry Funeral Home. Flowers are optional and memorials may be made to the New Bethel United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will include Jimmy Dunn, Lanier Dunn, Neal Floyd, Ralph Adams, Leon Stratton, Jr., Terry Stratton, Steve Stovall, and Pat Lee.

Born in Clarke County, he was a son of the late Omer and Albina Gaines Stratton. He was a member of the Elberton Elks Lodge 1100 and the New Bethel United Methodist Church. Mr. Stratton was a former member of the Georgia Army National Guard and employed with Royston Sheel Metal L.L.C.

Survivors include his wife, Joy Welborn Stratton; daughters and son-in-law, Angela and Scott Oliver of Athens and Amanda Joy Stratton of Sarasota, FL; son, Ricky E. Stratton of Elberton; sister, Dorothy Stovall of Statesville, NC; and four grandchildren.
