Madeline Carlton

Mrs. Madeline Vickery Carlton, 79, of 1051 Airline Store Rd, Bowersville, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 in Athens Regional Medical Center.

The funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2009 at 4pm from the Cross Roads Baptist Church. Revs. Ben Coleman and Connie Mack Bowers will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. The body is in The Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell where the family will receive freinds from 6-8 Saturday evening. Mrs. Carlton will be taken to the church at 3:30 to lie in state until the hour of service. The family is at the home. Memorials may be made to:

Born May 2, 1930 in Hart County, she was the daughter of the late Clark Vickery and Susie Foster Vickery. She was retired from Dunlop and a member of the Cross Roads Baptist Church and the Encouragers Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, John Holbrook; second husband Harold Carlton; and by brothers, James Alton Vickery, Alvin Vickery and John Edwin Vickery.

Survivors include her son, Tommy Carlton of Martin; daughters, Brenda Garner of Anderson, Carol Beggs of Canon, Dianne Fleming of Rockingham, N.C.; brother, Rudolph Vickery of Bowersville; sisters, Helen Evans of Royston and Shirley Knapp of Columbus, OH. Seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, John Holbrook and second husband Harold Carlton and by brothers, James Alton Vickery, Alvin Vickery and John Edwin Vickery.
