Betsey Broome

Mrs. Elizabeth Howell “Betsey” Broome, age 82, of the Reed Creek community passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2009 in her home.

The memorial service will be held on her birthday, May 16, 2009 at 11am in the Sharon Presbyterian Church. Rev. Jim Lugo and Rev. Lawton Daugherty will officiate. The family will receive friends after the service in the church. The body was cremated and her ashes will be placed in the Garden at Sharon. Memorials may be made to:

Born on May 16, 1925 in Charlotte NC, she lived most of her life in Decatur GA. She was the widow of the late Judge Robert K. Broome. Mrs. Broome moved to Hartwell GA in 1991. Betsey was a member of Sharon Presbyterian Church and the Hartwell Garden Club. She enjoyed flower arranging and playing Bridge with her friends. Mrs. Broome will be remembered for her zest for life, her vibrant personality, her compassion for others, her faith in Christ and her love for her family. She was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor B. George

Survivors include her three children, Katherine Zachary, Keith Broome and Jim Broome, who reside in Atlanta; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Carriere, Beau Carriere, Kristen MacIntyre, Rachel Cox, Leighton Broome and her nine great-grandchildren; sister, Harvey Keiser and her husband Donald of Rome; and a brother-in-law, Travis George of Hartwell.
