J.H. Pete Bailey

Joel Hubert "Pete" Bailey, 86, of 22260 Dr. George Ward Road, Elberton, husband of Sue Balchin Bailey, died Saturday, January 10, 2009.
Born in Elbert County, he was a son of the late Bessie Teresa McDonald Bailey and James Alvin Bailey. He was a member of Eliam United Methodist Church, retired truck driver for Greenway Oil Company; a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII serving in the 112th Combat Engineer Battalion in the Normandy D-Day invasion and the Rhineland Ardennes, The Battle of the Bulge and Central Europe.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Bailey; daughters, Teresa (Jack) Dye, Lisa (Mitch) Ruff, both of Elberton; sister, Crystal Edwards of Elberton; grandchildren, Clint, Clay, and Cliff Dye and Jessica and Garrett Ruff.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Monday (January 12) in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Wesley Private and Rev. Phillip Hart officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park.

The family is at the home, 2260 Dr. George Ward Road, and will receive Friends at Berry Funeral Home, Sunday evening from 6 - 8 pm.

Pallbearers will be Clint Dye, Clay Dye, Garrett Ruff, James Lee Bailey, Lewis Bailey and Cliff Dye.

Flowers will not be accepted and memorials may be made to the Eliam United Methodist Church.
